There is no predetermined schedule for updates to this site. Trained monkeys add information as it becomes available. In general, though, we strive to add announcements of all new band and individual projects by the time that details become public through any other source (press releases, etc). So you should check the site constantly. Never leave.
We said never leave!
Although we try our best, sometimes things just break. PC users shouldn’t have a problem, but if you’re on a Mac (and we’re all on Macs here at Phish HQ), consider viewing the site on Safari or Chrome for best results. If you’re reading this on a TRS-80, that’s pretty impressive.
On different browsers, things can shift around. Since this is a brand new version of the site, we’re expecting some bugs, but doing all we can to avoid them. It might take a little bit for the site to be fully broken in, like an old shoe. If you notice anything really bizarre happening, like your computer becoming self-aware and rebelling against its human oppressors, drop us a line at web@phish.com.
Phish.com 5.0 was designed by PROD4ever in Boston, MA and built by Crowd Favorite in Denver, CO.
Much of the post-1994 photography on the site was taken by longtime Phish friend Danny Clinch. Additional photography was taken by C. Taylor Crothers, Jay Blakesberg, and many others too numerous to mention in this space. Lots of our post-2009 photos were taken by Dave Vann and Rene Huemer. Thanks to all who keep our photo archives flowing.
this? I swear it wasn’t me!
Trey Anastasio – Guitar, Vocals
Jon Fishman – Drums, Vocals
Mike Gordon – Bass, Vocals
Page McConnell – Keyboards, Vocals
Phish was founded in 1983 when freshman Trey Anastasio posted flyers around the University of Vermont Campus, looking for musicians to form a band. (Why didn’t he use Craigslist? Unclear). Jon Fishman, Mike Gordon and Jeff Holdsworth answered the flyer and soon Phish was gigging regularly in the Burlington area. The lineup solidified in 1985, when keyboardist Page McConnell joined the group (and persuaded Anastasio and Fishman to join him at nearby Goddard College) and Holdsworth left soon after. After that, it has been a steady climb from Burlington club band to rodeo-clown backing group to regional touring act to bigger clubs, and eventually theatres and arenas worldwide. The band signed with Elektra Entertainment in late 1991 and has sold more than 8 million albums and DVDs in the United States, including fourteen studio albums and a multitude of live shows. In 2006, the band created their own record label, JEMP Records.

Don’t pressure him! Gig will get around to it when he’s good and ready!
You will find the most up-to-date and complete information at https://www.phish.com (duh, obvs). The trusty Phish Hotline was put out to pasture in 2001, but lives on in our memories. The Phish Update email + SMS list periodically emails announcements about upcoming Phish releases, tour dates, Tickets-by-Mail details, new Dry Goods exclusives, and much more, including info about individual band member projects. You can also check out Phish’s Facebook and Instagram pages for more info.

The most recent issue of the Schvice was Summer 2000, with the Summer and Fall tour dates. The newsletter was discontinued when we discovered its name was a slur against the generous people of Turkmenistan. There’s no plan to resurrect it, but you can still get the latest happenings from the band by signing up for the Phish Update newsletter.
Sure, you can link to Phish.com. We ask that you do that instead of copying and reprinting information such as tour dates, because if we make a change you might not know about it and then you would be spreading incorrect information and god knows what else. All content (audio, video, all graphics, photos, etc.) on Phish.com is protected by copyright, so please don’t copy anything from our site to use on your site or elsewhere. Use this content instead. If you want to contact the band via VideoTeleTextron, their passcode ID signal is “GrapeApple44”; when prompted for a keycard, insert your MicroSD chip, wait 80 seconds, then upload your Virtual Avatrix (as long as it’s under 240 databytes). See you in SimSpace™!
Please don’t bring glowsticks into shows! They are hard and heavy enough to inflict pain and injury, and honestly, they haven’t been cool since 1997.
Thank you for your interest and inquiry; however, we have no openings to offer, and are not accepting applications or resumes or baskets of Vermont cheddar. If you want to start working in the music industry, we suggest that you become involved with a local band in your area – the skills and experience you pick up will be valuable if you choose to develop this into a career.
Please do not bring pets to shows. The crowds and heat can be very unpleasant and dangerous for them, and if they get lost they may never find you again. They will be much happier at home, chewing their bones and licking their balls.
The G-Crew is a group of volunteers who help with a coordinated recycling and general clean up effort at Phish shows. Volunteers pick up recyclables and hand out trash bags in the parking lots. They also are an important outreach arm of Phish, helping spread general messages to concert goers when necessary.
In return for their efforts, many volunteers receive free tickets for that night’s show. Unfortunately not all volunteers receive tickets every night, as there are more volunteers than tickets available. We strive to make sure that everybody who contributes to the G-Crew is compensated in accordance with their dedication to the effort. If you want to become involved with the G-Crew, simply show up at will call (also known as the box office) at 5 PM before any show, and look around for 40-50 kids having a meeting. Now look to your left. Do you see a bird? Look again.
We cannot provide copies of shows on request, but you might try the Phish message boards – there are often folks there who will burn CDs of live shows if you send them blanks and postage, and once you have a few recordings, then you can start trading to expand your collection. To understand the responsibilities associated with tape trading, please be sure to read Phish’s Audio Recording and Transfer Policy.
To get official soundboard copies direct from the band, check out http://LivePhish.com. You can also download the LivePhish App which provides streaming services of the entire LivePhish catalog! The service offers high quality, unedited soundboard recordings of select shows in standard MP3 and CD-quality FLAC files via a state-of-the-art delivery system. All download files are compatible with Windows, Mac, Unix and VideoTeleTextron, allowing for maximum flexibility and ease of use. Once downloaded, shows can be burned to disc, transferred to iPods, or played through your computer and recorded onto a wax cylinder.
Ha! Oh wait, sorry, you’re serious. Due to the volume of requests received, it is not possible for us to become involved with individuals’ marriage, birthday, quinceañera or other celebrations. Nonetheless, please accept our best wishes for the future! And generally, Phish does not play benefit concerts. Rather, the band prefers to make direct grants to good causes through the WaterWheel Foundation.
Interview and photography requests should be directed to the band’s publicist, Big Hassle. Please send them to:

As we are only able to accommodate a very limited amount of requests, please note that only serious inquiries from accredited media will be considered, such as the New York Times and Jeff’s Super-Awesome Music Blog.
PHISH AUDIO RECORDING POLICY – UPDATED SEPTEMBER 13, 2023
This policy applies to Phish and the individual band members with exceptions such as certain guest appearances and multi-band events which may be governed by separate policies. Audience taping is permitted at all shows. All taping is audio only with microphones only (no soundboard patches, no video) in the taping section. At most shows, a designated taper’s ticket is required to bring recording gear into the show. The bearer of a taper’s ticket is permitted to bring ONE audio recording device and ONE microphone stand/set of microphones into the venue. No video devices are ever allowed. The enjoyment of the audience at a show takes precedence over recording efforts – tapers should not require others to be quiet or otherwise interfere with their enjoyment of the show.
General Admission/Reserved/Mixed Shows
To record a show that is entirely general admission, a taper’s ticket is not required. Entry to the taping section at general admission shows is first-come first-serve on a space-available basis. In an amphitheater with a reserved pavilion and general admission lawn, the taping section is usually located behind the mix position in the pavilion and a taper’s ticket is required. In an arena or theater with a general admission floor and reserved stands or balcony, a general admission floor ticket is required. If there is reserved seating on the floor, a taper’s ticket is required. Tapers’ tickets are marked on their face with the text “taper.” Tapers’ tickets are usually sold only by Phish Ticketing (formerly Phish Tickets-by-Mail); they are not available from other outlets unless we specifically announce otherwise. Anyone found taping in violation of the above policy will be removed from the venue and unauthorized recordings will be confiscated.
Broadcast/Webcast of Live Phish Recordings
Broadcast of unreleased Phish recordings via: radio, online or any other means is permissible only if the broadcaster is duly licensed and if all their activities conform to all the guidelines set forth in this policy. Please note that you must not infringe upon trademarks such as the name of the band.
Recording Duplication Policy
Audience taping at Phish concerts is authorized for non-commercial purposes only. Unauthorized sale, duplication and/or distribution are strictly forbidden. All Phish performances and recordings are the exclusive property of Phish. All rights reserved. The privilege to record Phish performances set forth in this policy constitutes an express, revocable license. We reserve the right to withdraw our sanction of recording, tape trading, and/or non-commercial digital file transfers as we deem necessary. No waiver of any copyright or trademark right is intended. “Phish” as used in this policy includes the four band members of Phish.
Ownership of Recordings
Regardless of format or source, all participants in the exchange of audio recordings acknowledge and respect the copyrights and exclusive ownership of the music and performances by the performers, writers and publishers. All taping must be for personal use only, which may include trading (via digital file transfer, CD or tape). Regardless of any expenses incurred, no money may ever be exchanged as part of a trade. In addition, the media by which audio trading is publicized may not be commercialized. Therefore newsletters, web sites or any other communication forum facilitating audio trading cannot accept advertising, offer links for compensation, exploit databases compiled from their traffic, or otherwise derive any commercial proceeds in any form.
Official Releases
Officially released recordings of any kind (live or studio, audio or video) in any format may not be copied or otherwise traded or uploaded in whole or part as compilations, online streams or other methods of distribution, including vinyl records. Compiling one or more officially released files or combining official releases in whole or part with other material is prohibited (ie “Matrix” or other mixes/compilations or sync’d video). Videotaping is never allowed. Webcasts or other streams are officially released recordings and may not be copied or distributed in real-time or after the fact. Stores, businesses or web sites may not duplicate or offer to duplicate any Phish recordings for customers or sell or otherwise provide media containing unreleased Phish music for any price including a loss.
Online File Sharing
A statement of compliance with this policy must be clearly posted on all web sites engaged in trading activity. It is the responsibility of the site host to remain informed of the current list of officially released recordings and to maintain their site according to the taping policy.
Violations
You may inform us of violations of this policy by contacting us.
Tickets for all of Phish’s concerts are available from outlets and via charge-by-phone as well as from http://tickets.phish.com/ (formerly Phish Tickets-by-Mail), unless specifically announced otherwise. If Ticketmaster or LiveNation is selling tickets for the show, then they will also be available online at ticketmaster.com or livenation.com.
The number and locations of outlets selling tickets for each Phish concert varies widely from show to show. In order to check whether your local outlet will have tickets when they go on sale, we recommend that you call the outlet, check the venue website for outlet information prior to the onsale or go to the outlet in person (or send someone you trust – not Phil). Please note that if you have the option of buying at an outlet rather than charging by phone or on-line, you will pay less in service charges.
We support any procedures that can be utilized at outlet locations to decrease scalpers’ ability to buy large numbers of tickets, such as the use of random number distribution to create the line for ticket purchasing and the use of 15-minute delays at non-local outlet locations. Please expect that such procedures will be used whenever Phish concerts go on sale if they are available; if some outlets or on-line sales will be delayed, this will be indicated on the Phish.com Tourdates page.
Finally, if there is great demand for tickets to a given show, please do not be surprised or assume that “scalpers bought all the tickets”- if good seats (or indeed, all of the seats) sell out in a matter of minutes from the on-sale time. We go to great lengths to supervise and review the process of putting every show on sale and can assure you that no one is being permitted to inappropriately exclude chunks of tickets from public availability. Please remember that while Phish Tickets does offer an alternative opportunity to buy tickets for Phish shows, by selling these tickets in advance they are also removed from the inventory available at the time of the on-sale, and therefore the tickets which remain at that time will be fewer and may sell very quickly.
The amount of service charges that will be added to the cost of your tickets will depend upon how you purchase them. For every Phish concert that goes on sale, we designate at least one outlet where you can buy tickets with cash in person at face value with no service charge. Usually this is at the box office at the venue where the show will be taking place; in any case, this information is always included before the on-sale date on the Tour Dates page of this web site.
If you are buying tickets for more than one Phish show, Phish Tickets will usually be your next least expensive option. There is a per ticket service fee (varies according to ticket price) plus a per order UPS shipping fee. International shipping rates vary. FedEx or UPS delivery is mandatory so that we have a record of delivery of every package of tickets sent; we cannot replace tickets that are lost in transit without tracking details.
Outlet service charges vary by geographic region and from service to service. If you buy your tickets at an outlet you will not have to pay additional fees to have them delivered to you.
Charge-by-phone and online purchasing are convenient. They are also the most expensive in terms of added fees. Usually there is a convenience fee
per ticket, plus a handling fee per order. Depending upon the particular show, there may also be an added fee for mandatory certified mail or UPS
delivery. For every show, detailed service charge information will be included on the https://www.phish.com/tours page prior to the on-sale date. The choice of purchase method is yours.
Up to 50% of the tickets available for each of Phish’s shows may be sold by Phish Tickets. In order to be fair to people who aren’t aware of the opportunity to order tickets by mail, the seating is divided exactly equally by quality (as well as quantity) between Phish Tickets and outlet sales. Therefore, the Phish allotment includes all levels of quality, from front row to lawn or behind stage seats, the exact same range of seating as will be available when the shows go on sale via outlets. Requests for a particular seating location (other than tapers’ section) cannot be honored.
We will notify you via email at least 2 days prior to the onsale date. If it is less than 48 hours until the on-sale date and you have not received email notifying you that your order cannot be filled, you may call Phish Tickets’ customer service line (1-800-594-8499) or send an email to
phishtickets@ticketstoday.com to check on the status of your order. You should also check the News page for recent updates on Phish Tickets fulfillment.
We will ship your order to you at least one week prior to the first show you ordered.
We strive to make all of the seats that can be sold to the public (after mail order) available at the time that a show first goes on sale, so that the people who waited in line or spent the morning on the phone or internet have the best chance of being satisfied. However some additional seating may become available for a variety of reasons closer to the date of the shows. E.g., seats may be added due to changing production needs and the release of areas of limited view. We make every effort to schedule such ticket releases and announce them in advance on the Phish web site, so that people who are paying attention and making an effort to stay informed will be rewarded.
Even so, occasionally there are additional tickets to sell on the day of a sold-out show. Please note: when this is the case, these tickets will NEVER be made available at the venue box office, if the show has already been announced as sold out. Therefore, if you are attempting to get a ticket on the day of a sold-out show, the venue itself is the worst place to be. The best thing to do is to check periodically with Ticketmaster or LiveNation on-line and charge by phone, and to check at a local outlet from time to time – if tickets are released, that is where they will be sold, NOT at the venue box office, ever. Seriously, just step away from the box office. There is no set time when the tickets will be released, but 12-2pm is a good time to check. You will be helping yourself the most by utilizing these resources, and refraining from coming to the site of the show until you have obtained a ticket.
Attempting to buy a ticket in the parking lot at a sold-out show is very risky and we do not recommend it. Many of the tickets offered there are counterfeit or made of grilled cheese and they will not get you into the show. When you buy these tickets, not only do you waste your money, but you also encourage the people who print and sell them to continue to do so. When you buy scalped tickets, you make an ass out of you and me.
We strongly urge you to avoid buying tickets from ticket agencies, or “scalpers,” or “los scalperos.” Aside from the unreasonable prices charged, these tickets are often counterfeit and will not get you into the show. Also, sometimes scalpers will take your credit card number in advance, charge you for tickets, and never deliver them. Buying tickets from agencies only encourages them and proves to them that they can make money by buying Phish tickets for re-sale, and so they will try even harder to get more of them next time, thus making it even more difficult for you to get the tickets at the fair price of face value and perpetuating an endless cycle of douchebaggery. For your own protection, please buy tickets only from official sources.
Once you have placed your order, it is final, and we cannot cancel or change it; we must fill it as it is received, to the best of our ability. That is the oath we have taken. With great power comes great responsibility.
Taper tickets are usually available only from Phish Tickets; you must indicate your preference on the order form. Taper orders are limited to 2 seats per show, even if the mail order limit for regular seats is 4 to 6. If there is no mail order for a show, then taper tickets are likely to be available from Ticketmaster. You will have to explicitly request taper seats to purchase them. In such cases details will be provided on the web site. If you do not plan on taping the show, please do not request taper seats.
Since mail order seats are assigned randomly, accessible seating is not included in the Phish Tickets inventory. If you are granted mail order tickets via Phish Tickets and you need accessible seating please email phishtickets@ticketstoday.com as soon as you are confirmed for tickets. Accessible seating can usually be obtained from Ticketmaster, if they are selling tickets for the event in question; when in doubt, please contact the venue directly so they can provide the best accommodation for your needs. If you need special seating please do be sure to obtain this when you initially purchase your tickets, as standard reserved and lawn areas are often not accessible, and in most cases, regular tickets cannot be exchanged for accessible seating after purchase.
When an amphitheatre or arena is built, the parking areas and access roads are designed to accommodate at maximum the number of people that can be admitted to the venue. When people come to a sold-out event without tickets, just to “hang out” or “kibitz,” it is possible that the parking areas may fill up before all of the ticketholders have arrived, thus jeopardizing their opportunity to enjoy an event for which they have already paid. In addition, it may overwhelm the access routes, causing traffic jams and delaying ticketholders as well as local (non-concert) traffic.
When people without tickets stay in the parking lots and surrounding neighborhoods during a show, unfortunately it can create tension with the local community (based on prior episodes of inconsiderate behavior, inappropriate urination, or even appropriate urination). It takes only a few local residents left with a bad impression to endanger the band’s and the fans’ welcome in a town. Therefore, out of consideration for others in the community of Phish fans, please don’t go to a sold-out show without tickets – respecting this guideline is the best thing you can do to preserve your opportunity to get tickets and see the band at the same place in the future.
When the band is on tour the official WaterWheel staff consists of two paid employees and four or five primary volunteers. The paid staff members have extensive experience in touring and non-profit fund raising, and were involved with WaterWheel as volunteers before being chosen for paid positions.
Many volunteers also help out at the WaterWheel tables. We welcome assistance at the tables but the core staff will not be expanded during a tour. We try to keep WaterWheel expenses minimal so that as much money as possible goes to the non-profit groups showcased each night. If you are interested in volunteering stop by the WaterWheel tables at a show and talk to one of the staff members.
WaterWheel is not a chapter or member-based organization. Its primary function is to channel money to deserving non-profit groups, either on tour or in Vermont. WaterWheel does not allow individuals or other groups to use the WaterWheel Foundation name or its logos without our permission. You are of course welcome and encouraged to use the idea to start your own independent foundation and host non-profit groups at school events.
The Waterwheel Foundation continues to offer fans a selection of Eco-friendly, Sustainable gear year-round. Merchandise can be purchased on the road and via Phish Dry Goods. Net proceeds from the sale of merchandise via Dry Goods are donated to a deserving non-profit group, currently the Green Mountain Club.
Only 501(c)3 Non-profits can receive funding from WaterWheel and be selected as the hosted organization for a show to receive the net proceeds from that night’s fan donations. Hosted groups are chosen after a tour is announced, so if there is an upcoming show in your area and you know of a non-profit that would like to table, send us the information listed below and they will be considered.
Name, Address, Telephone and Fax numbers, email, URL, and Contact name, Proof of 501 (c)3 status. Describe the work that the group does (include its mission statement). Groups wishing to table at a show should explain what they would do with the money raised. Any additional materials such as brochures, photos, flyers, et cetera are welcome.
Information should be mailed to The WaterWheel Foundation, PO Box 4400, Burlington VT 05406 or emailed to ww@phish.com
One way to make a donation to WaterWheel is to go to a show and make a donation at the table. Another possibility is to make a donation directly to one of the nonprofits that WaterWheel supports. Lists and contact information (where available) for these groups are provided in the main WaterWheel section of the site. You may also send a donation to The WaterWheel Foundation by mail to The WaterWheel Foundation, PO Box 4400, Burlington VT 05406 or click the “donate” link on the front of the WaterWheel webpage.
Generally Phish does not play benefit concerts. Rather, the band prefers to make direct grants to good causes through WaterWheel.
Phish’s official web site is https://www.phish.com. However, unofficial Phish-related web sites are permitted. For purposes of this policy, fan web sites for individual members or bands in which the individual members of Phish perform will be treated the same as Phish-related sites, unless specified otherwise. Sites dealing with guest performances by band members with other artists will be governed by that artist’s web site policy.
All sites with such Phish-related content must agree to the Statement of Compliance provided below, and clearly display the following: “This site voluntarily complies with the Phish fan web site policy at https://www.phish.com/faq/web-guidelines”
Fan sites must not contain any defamatory, offensive, illegal, and/or otherwise actionable content, nor may they allow such content from any user. Try not to fucking swear. Sites must comply with local laws and regulations, to the extent any local laws and regulations are applicable.
Fan sites may not be commercial (as determined by Phish in its sole discretion). Therefore they cannot accept advertising, offer links for compensation, exploit databases compiled from their traffic, sell humorous but heartwarming page-a-day calendars, or otherwise derive any commercial proceeds in any form, regardless of whether a net profit is realized. In exchange for this permitted use, the maintainers of such sites must agree to remove any protected materials from their sites immediately upon the request of Phish. If a fan site wishes to feature Phish music, even a sweet MIDI file like this, the maintainer is responsible for making sure that the nature of usage complies with Phish’s Audio Recording Policy.
If you are aware of any person or site in violation of this policy, please inform us (web@phish.com). Thank you.
