Phish will play a special show at Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction, VT next Wednesday, September 14th. The concert will benefit Vermont flood recovery efforts. In the wake of Hurricane Irene, Vermont experienced its worst flooding in a century, which devastated communities throughout the state.
General admission tickets will be $75. In addition, a special "Friend of WaterWheel" package will be available for $250. It will include preferred parking, a reserved box seat, a limited edition poster and access to a Vermont craft beer tent.
In order to ensure that a large allotment of tickets is available to local residents, the public onsale will be in-person and cash only.
Tickets will go on sale tomorrow, Saturday, September 10th at 10AM ET at The Flynn Theatre Box office (located at 153 Main Street, Burlington, VT). Tickets will NOT be available online. There will be a limit of two tickets per person. We ask that you not arrive at the box office until Saturday morning.
Proceeds from the concert and merchandise sales will be directed to The WaterWheel Foundation and The Vermont Community Foundation to aid in the recovery of the Green Mountain State.
The WaterWheel Foundation was created by Phish in 1997 to oversee the band's various charitable activities. Fans can donate to The WaterWheel Foundation by clicking here. Donors should specify that they would like their contribution to go to Vermont flood recovery efforts.
The Vermont Community Foundation was founded in 1986 and is Vermont's largest homegrown philanthropic foundation, managing a collection of over 600 charitable funds that invest more than $18 million annually in Vermont through grants, loans and other investments. In the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, the Foundation worked with donors and other partners to facilitate donations for relief and recovery efforts, including the establishment of a fund to benefit Vermont farmers affected by the storm. thanks everyone - for being you :) couch tourin' the benefit ! phamily forever <3
Hey Little Phishies...
You guys really dropped the ball on ticketing for the benefit show this
Wednesday. By only offering tix at the Flynn, you pretty much guaranteed
that almost all the tickets would go to pampered college kids who
experienced no negative impact whatsoever from the floods. What about the
good people of Brattleboro, Wilmington, Rutland, Rochester, Moretown, or a
host of other towns who saw real damage from Irene? They were supposed to
drop everything and drive up to three hours to get to Burlington to buy
tix? You really should've set up multiple points of sale to ensure that
Vermonters all over the state had equal access to tickets, not some trust
fund losers who have the time and money to drive all the way here from
Colorado to be first in line at the Flynn.
Your hearts are in the right place, but your logistical team really
screwed this one up. Royally.
Disappointedly yours,
Pedro
Looks like most of the PTBM went to New Yorkers looking to flip their tix and double their $.
It's disturbing when I see anyone grab up tickets and then double, or even quadruple, the sale price...especially when it's for a benefit. $250-$300 a ticket? It's tasteless to turn benefit proceeds into a personal gain. Give it to Waterwheel or Red Cross.
Find a conscience people.
Its diturbing when I see things like " it is pretty disrespectful of these people to snatch our tickets meant for Vermont residents right from under our noses, then they smoke pot and have a sweet party." Did anyone expect anything different? I understand that it is to benefit vermont residents effected by the tropical storm but if the money gets raised, what is the problem? I knew it would be like this because it has been like this ever since I started going to shows. They aren't going to ask for VT state IDs. I am from Ausable, NY and I KNOW how bad everything got during that storm. I saw the oppurtunity to help another community in need while having fun. I wish someone was trying to help us across the lake.
Also, my mother is a Dead Head. I grew up in the culture that this 'jamband' community has. I was 3 years old at my first festival and have been embracing this life (drug free for 2 years I might add) ever since. I may be young but its part of my life. And yes, I do go to SUNY so when I see things like this; "It's gonna be like a DMB show, nothing but drunken college kids who weren't even born when the band got together." It concerns me about the judgements people pass on me. Either way, I know the 14th is going to be AMAZINGLY PHUN!! :)
You people should be ashamed of yourselves. This is a benefit for flood victims not HIP SCHOOL PREPPIES who sat in line and partied all night. I hope you eat those tix! Instant charma's gonna get YOU.
...is to raise money. Yes, we'd all like a fair shot at seeing them play live, and yes, the idea is to try to give Vermonters a chance to do so, but this event was put together very quickly, and getting tix all over the state in such short order was probably pretty tricky. And the impact of people flocking to various ticket outlets all over the state may have been a concern too, given our beleaguered infrastructure. I'm sure they weighed their options and did the best they could do in such short order, and I highly doubt they made decisions on a whim and without the interests of Vermonters in mind. Although we'd all like to get some musical relief from all the stress, the priority here is to raise money, and raise money they will. Sure we need more, but many of us are doing our part and giving what we can, and this is Phish's part. Who knows, maybe they'll do another show later on with enough time to plan ticket sales throughout Vermont. For now, I'm grateful they responded so quickly and are doing something to help out...even if I can't see the show - because it's not about that.
You know if you take a second to think about it...there are 7,000 tickets for sale, that is 3,500 people who can get to Burlington and buy two tickets. It definitely gives a lot of people a decent chance to get a ticket. Which really is a big difference from other shows. Imagine a line 3,500 people long!! Thanks Phish for giving back to your state in need and making trying real hard to to get all kinds of folks a chance to get to the show!
As a VT resident who had to see this line for himself I just want to tell the Phish phan base to NOT WORRY! The security guard at the back of the line told me there were max 500 people in line, this is at 2 AM, and that they were selling 12,500 tickets. Honestly fellow vermonters and burlingtonians should just get up early and they WILL get a ticket. As a lottery winner I know I cannot understood the frustration you all must be feeling but I honestly think that if you get here now you will be PHINE.
If phish members REALLY read these posts .............it's not too late to take some of those tickets at the Flynn and open another site where people are not camping out when requested not to!
Don't take this the wrong way It is very much appreciated that you are donating you time and money to a good cause on short notice, but this would be an easy fix and another great gift to the residents of Vermont.
I went downtown to scope things out thinking I would get some sleep and head down early (like 5am). Boy was I dumb. They shouldn't have announced this so early, then asked that people not show up until Saturday AM. If this show was truly for Vermonters they would have waited to announce the sales location until Saturday early AM because then the locals would have had a better chance to get tickets. I couldn't just leave work and get in line at noon like all of these college kids. It is ridiculous down there. It is a bunch of drunken, high college kids who probably don't know anything about the band other than that its an excuse for them to pretend to be hippies and get high on the sidewalks of Burlington. The cops are doing a stand up job down there sitting around while people light up and smoke weed right in public. Nothing wrong with having fun, but in my eyes it is pretty disrespectful of these people to snatch our tickets meant for Vermont residents right from under our noses, then they smoke pot and have a sweet party. If only Vermont could have a disaster every year so these loser out of state college kids could come and take over our town and steal our little glimmer of hope and happiness. I am a Vermonter, and I will not be able to go because I thought that there were going to be some sort of preventatives to keep people from lining up and I was wrong. I should have known it was going to turn into a hot mess. Unlike all of you who will probably leave that sidewalk you are camping out on a mess and make more trouble for Vermont, I will spend my time volunteering, donating and raising money for the Vermonters who truly need it and who are completely devastated. It really is too bad, because with more planning this truly could have been a concert for Vermont, with Vermonters.
Thank you guys and fellow phans for all that you're doing for the people effected by the flooding. I also want to reiterate what some others are saying and ask for a webcast. I think it would be a wonderful way for all of us phans throughout the world to help out and share the moment. Hope others agree. Have a good one people.
Are any actual flood victims (phloodies) going to be at the show? Probably not. I'll tell you why: We're out of our homes, and waiting for FEMA and flood insurance to come through. When all is said and done, most of us will be out a minimum of $30,000. That's those of us with flood insurance. Others will be out at least $60,000. However much we need the relief of a show, it's hardly in the budget.
What was it that Bobby said the night that Jerry died? Something like, "Well, if there's anything our friend taught is, it's that music can be used to ease us through the sad times."
For those who didn't get tix, but want to help, send cash to the relief orgs. There are 43 homes on my street that were devastated. Our elderly neighbors don't have flood insurance (no mortgage; not required), and are hurting more than you could ever know.
Yes, kids, this is the real deal, the crap you see on TV. You can't know what it's like until you walk into your home and see 3" of mud covering everything, and it all needs to go, from the 125 year old maple floors to 500 irreplaceable vinyl albums, and everything in between.
it's not about "where's MY ticket!" I just get so excited when they play in VT, many amazing shows in VT.
Great effort to make it happen so quick!
Phish phans get aggressive, you'd never get that at a Dead show.
It would seem "fair" to me to just hop in "line" anywhere you choose since there isn't supposed to be a line until Sat am. The line that exists right now is not a sanctioned line until Sat. I think I'll just mill around Main St until 12am and then jump in 100 deep, just like I did at the Roseland. See you in front SUCKAAAAAZZZZ
a "local" that never had a chance
Not everybody can have it there way. STOP WHINING. But hay, I got my tickets. And if I didn't, you would phine me at the Flynn tonight. Waiting. Not WHINING!
Thanks for doing this show!!!!! WEBCAST PLEASE. You will raise much more money for this great cause!
Hope I can score a ticket tomorrow afternoon, if not, I just want to say thank you to the band for doing this. It is incredible for this to be put together and I really appreciate it.
It's gonna be like a DMB show, nothing but drunken college kids who weren't even born when the band got together.

First, THANK YOU Phish for putting this together. It really means so much to so many people. No where is there a bigger and better sense on community than in Vermont, and this show will make our community even stronger.
Second, only selling tickets in Burlington is so unfair to all the Vermonters in Southern VT that have no means to get to Burlington and stand in line for hours. Just getting to the show on Wednesday is going to be very difficult for a lot of people, considering how many roads are still impassable between here and there. Also, the whole idea was to "ensure that a large allotment of tickets (are) available to local residents." Nothing against Burlington, but, as any real Vermonter will tell, when you meet someone who claims to be a Vermonter and then tells you he/she is from Burlington, the next question is usually, "so where are you really from?"
PLEASE HELP the real Vermonters who would love for nothing more than to forget about everything they have lost and dance the night away with the greatest band on earth. Send some tickets SOUTH!
Hey guys, there is obviously nothing perfect about attempting to put together a Phish show in a week and a half....sorry not everyone could have it exactly as they would like...but how about just HUGE THANK YOUS to the band and the hundreds of other folks who have probably been working like maniacs to put this together. THANK YOU from Quechee....
Double up on the benefit proceeds by having the Burlington PD fine all of the "phans" $100 who ignore the request "We ask that you not arrive at the box office until Saturday morning." with loitering violations, then give all of the fine proceeds to the Waterwheel or VCF.
I hate cheaters
WBCAST PLEASE!
There's already a line in front of the Flynn...I know there was little time to pull it all together but the Flynn seems like poor planning. It's gonna be mostly college kids who have nothing better to do than to skip class and camp out overnight, who don't know the difference between a ripppin Curtain With and a lame Bouncin', and weren't even born when the band got together.
First show, Townshend Family Fun Park '91, wish I had a chance at seeing them in Vt again.
Webcast Please!
tickets on sale in a town that didn't even get affected by the hurricane? what about the rest of Vermont, screw us
I guess when they said they wanted to give "locals a better chance at tickets" they meant Burlington residents. Brattleboro, VT get's shut out online AND at a chance for box office sales once again. I would've expected better planning than making 10000+ people drive to Burlington on a Friday night and camp out on Main St. cause we ALL know that's what will happen. The green is going to be a lot scene. There would be much less impact, and more happy VT heads, to have multiple locations throughout the state. Its a great cause and I'm so glad they're giving back to the community but the Flynn box office is a bad idea.
Webcast PLEASE!
