Mesa Amphitheatre
Mesa, AZ, US

Set List

Show Notes

This was Phish’s only show in Mesa, Arizona – the venue was an amphitheater with a capacity of about 4,200. Tickets cost $16.50 and the show was sold out. The Mesa soundcheck yielded the 1st known Higher Ground (Stevie Wonder cover) played by Phish, which led to a Higher Ground/Frankenstein Mashup, the 1st known Chalk Dust Torture Reprise played (see 12/10/94 for the public debut) and a partial Funky Bitch with some Mississippi Queen jamming and lyrics. Trey introduced Fish as Stan Mikita before Fish’s vacuum solo in I Didn’t Know. Run Like An Antelope included a May The Force Be With You (The Force Theme from Star Wars) tease by Trey and the alternate lyrics “suck the deer shit from the side of this hole.” Wilson began unusually – vocals only for a period until the band linked up. This experimental Tweezer included a Slave To The Traffic Light jam and some chanting/whispering. This was the last Big Ball Jam played to-date. Before the Encore, Fish quipped “Anybody else wearing a dress? It’s cold if you’re wearing a dress.” I’m Blue i’m Lonesome was performed acoustic with Trey on acoustic guitar, Mike on banjo, Page on upright bass and Fish on mandolin. Foreplay/Long Time was also performed acoustic with Trey on acoustic guitar, Mike on banjo, Page on upright bass and Fish on Madonna washboard. After this show, the band and crew traveled 404 miles overnight to Santa Monica, California.
