Show Notes

This was an all ages, 1-set show opening for Santana.  In good weather, the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater boasts spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains with capacity of about 2,600.  A freak August snowstorm that day luckily turned to rain and more or less cleared by showtime.  Nonetheless, the band opened their set with the weather-appropriate Buried Alive, which included teases of Oye Como Va.  The You Enjoy Myself vocal jam was based on Song Sung Blue (Neil Diamond cover).  It’s interesting to note that lyrics about this show, specifically the snow storm, were included in the Phish song Walfredo.  Other characters in the song from the Santana band in addition to its namesake drummer Walfredo Reyes Jr. include percussionists Karl Perazzo and Raul Rekow.  While Walfredo reminds the band and fans of this show, taping was not allowed at the Santana shows and no audience recording of this show is known to circulate.
