Show Notes

This was Phish’s 1st and only show in Barre, the Granite Capital of the World. It was an all ages show. This venue was sometimes referred to as Barre Memorial Auditorium and has a capacity of 1,650. Flyers for this show bore art by Jim Pollock. The show was presented by Dionysian Productions and advance tickets cost $12.50. Before Chalk Dust Torture, Page made a “no smoking” announcement, asking people to wait to smoke cigarettes outside. Trey announced that it’s the first time they’ve been home in nine weeks and Fish drank a toast “a drink to all our friends.” Trey then took a minute to acknowledge the four crew members “who’ve really been working hard while we were out there” – Paul, Chris, and “these two funny looking guys”, Andrew and Pete. Trey’s vote of confidence was sincere. “I can’t say enough. They’re the very best crew on the road right now. I can’t say enough. We wouldn’t be playing without them.” After Eliza Trey introduced his girlfriend (now-wife) Sue, who was in attendance, and dedicated the song to her. Sue’s full married name is Susan Eliza Anastasio. During the solos in Love You, Fish introduced the band, including Mike “Cactus” Gordon, and professed to own six vacuums now. The band was joined by Giant Country Horn member Dave “The Truth” Grippo on alto saxophone for Jesus Just Left Chicago and Big Black Furry Creature From Mars. During one of the breaks in Creature, Dave and Fish playfully teased St. Thomas.
