Show Notes

The Aragon was a historic “wonder ballroom” built in 1926 with an interior design consisting of facades of a Spanish village and a capacity of 5,000. This soundcheck included a jam that linked the 1st known performance of Miss You (Rolling Stones cover) and Take Me To The River (Talking Heads cover). My Friend My Friend started with Trey on acoustic guitar. The David Bowie intro featured an extensive “review medley” tease in the vein of 11/2/90 and included hints of at least Lawn Boy, Chalk Dust Torture, Uncle Pen, My Friend My Friend, The Squirming Coil, Split Open And Melt and Sparkle. Also mixed into David Bowie’s dense intro were Fall Down and Oom Pah Pah secret language. Mike’s Song included Mike’s “call it what you will but you know it’s my song” lyrics and associated testimony from the band as well as a jam on Miss You. The Great Gig In The Sky featured the usual Fish vacuum solo and a copious amount of smoke from Toph’s fog machines. Funky Bitch, Help Me, Hoochie Coochie Man and Cavern featured Chicago native and Rollling Stones collaborator Sugar Blue on harmonica. Sugar Blue also sang lead vocals for the 1st and only known performance Help Me (Sonny Boy Williamson cover) and the 1st performance of Hoochie Coochie Man (Muddy Waters cover). Despite Trey’s announcement that “you’ll have to be very quiet for this next number”, Amazing Grace was performed with microphones. After this show was a day off for Easter in Iowa City.
