Rupp Arena
Lexington, KY, USA

Set List

Show Notes

This was Phish’s only show at Rupp Arena – a basketball arena opened in 1976 with a capacity for UK Wildcats basketball games of 23,500, making it the largest capacity indoor arena in the United States. Stated capacity for this show was 12,000 and tickets cost $20.00. Mike and Trey shared lead vocals during the Funky Bitch soundcheck. The Guyute soundcheck included some alternative lyrics from Trey about gear problems he was experiencing. This show featured a number of rarities for the time, including the only Weigh, Tela or Bike played during fall 1996. Bathtub Gin went huge and included Dave’s Energy Guide teases and some percussion jamming by Trey. Bike included a vacuum solo and was played by request – in response Fish said “Well by gum, you’ve brought me out of the penalty box. It’s good to be back.” After this show the band and crew traveled 311 miles overnight to Champaign, Illinois. A soundboard recording of the Rupp Gin was released in November 2007 on the ‘Road to Vegas’ bonus disc that was included with the ‘Vegas 96’ box set. The full show was mixed from multitrack and released in 2016 as an archival stream/download at LivePhish.com.
