Show Notes

This was an all ages show.  It was listed in the Mar/Apr 92 Phish Update as “TBA” Arcata, CA. but confirmed before the Apr/May 92 Phish Update.  The show took place in what is now called the Main Exhibit Arena – a mostly windowless Quonset hut with a capacity of about 800.  Due to geography and lack of ventilation, this was possibly the smokiest Phish show in history.  It is affectionately known as “The Carl Yastrzemski” show.  Possum included The Simpsons, Get Back, Oom Pah Pah, Fall Down and Finger Scrape secret language and some Dave’s Energy Guide-inspired jamming.  During Colonel Forbin’s Ascent, Trey’s voice was effected with ominous extra reverb for each utterance of the evil “King Wilson.”  Trey’s narration during Fly Famous Mockingbird was a story about visiting Gamehendge via: a houseboat.  Weekapaug Groove included a Happy Birthday tease and dedication plus a Linus and Lucy tease.  Trey introduced both Weigh and I Am Hydrogen as having been written by (retired Boston Red Socks Baseball Hall-of-famer) Carl Yastrzemski.  When Fish came out to sing during the Hold Your Head Up intro, the audience was requesting Catapult, so Mike stepped up and sang Catapult solo, a cappella.  That led Fish to don Mike’s bass and sing the 1st and only known public performance of  Lively Up Yourself while Trey played drums and Mike played Trey’s guitar, as well as his 1st and only known vacuum solo.  Mike’s vacuum work led into a short vocal jam which Andrew Fischbeck labeled “Explanation” in his notes.  During Sanity, Mike continued channeling Yaz, saying simply “Yastrzemski.”  Sweet Adeline was performed without microphones.  Before the Cavern encore, Trey mentioned loving the venue and the buds and Fish asked “anyone got an ounce I can take home with me?”  The band promptly turned Fish’s request into a name and then a uniquely Local Vocal Jam.
