The WaterWheel Foundation

The DAAM series has distributed nearly $900,000 in donations via the WaterWheel Foundation since the start of the pandemic to help non-profits around the country (and beyond). Our friends at SiriusXM have generously underwritten production costs to make this webcast free, and we are hoping to come together once again as a community to support those in need. The WaterWheel Foundation will be raising money for a handful of non-profits close to the Phish community.

+++

Since 1997, the band and their fans have collaborated on a nationwide charitable endeavor by raising funds and donating the proceeds across the country. This year alone, collectively we have raised and donated nearly $750,000 to 27 different nonprofits during the Dinner And A Movie series. Join us in continuing to support those in need. Donate at https://www.phish.com/waterwheel.

Phish proudly presents Dinner And A Movie: An Archival Video Series. We’ll be airing a full show in its entirety for free each month beginning at 8:30 pm ET at webcast.livephish.com.

What is WaterWheel?

The WaterWheel Foundation was created by Phish in 1997 to oversee the band’s various charitable activities.

Our primary effort then and now is our Touring Division, though in keeping with our “Local” mission we also support Vermont-based non-profits and others in need. From its debut through the most current tour, the mission of WaterWheel’s Touring Division has been to raise funds for pre-selected non-profits in each community that Phish visits while on tour.

In essence, WaterWheel is the Phish community coming together to share in positive ways with the local communities we all visit on tour stops. The net proceeds raised at each show – fan donations plus the sale of WaterWheel logo merchandise and items autographed by the band – are donated to the organization tabling at the show, after deducting overhead costs.

The WaterWheel Foundation chooses non-profits from a large sphere of needs including social services, primarily those benefitting women and children; environmental, with a focus on clean water and land conservation with public access; as well as food banks, urban gardening and the like. Thanks to the generosity of the fans, since its creation WaterWheel’s Touring Division has donated over $2,500,000 to more than 500 groups.

Additionally, Waterwheel merchandise can be purchased on the road and via Phish Dry Goods

To contact WaterWheel email ww@phish.com or write to WaterWheel, PO Box 4400, Burlington VT 05406-4400.  Looking to donate to our efforts?

PHISH VT BENEFIT CONCERT: GIVING PLAN AND FIRST GRANTS ANNOUNCED

Phish and the WaterWheel Foundation announced today the initial grants from their September 14 benefit concert at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex, VT via the WaterWheel Fund for Vermont Flood Recovery, housed at the Vermont Community Foundation. The band’s WaterWheel Foundation has worked closely with philanthropic advisors at the Vermont Community Foundation to jointly develop a comprehensive giving strategy for the concert proceeds. The first round of grants from the fund will be distributed this week.

The fund’s initial round of support for Irene relief and recovery efforts will be comprised of several large grants ranging from $50,000 to $150,000 in the categories of farms, businesses, nonprofit organizations, food, and housing. Included in the likely list of grants are the following funds and organizations which are working hard to distribute contributions to Irene victims: the Vermont Farm Disaster Relief Fund and the Vermont Farm Fund Emergency Loan Program to support farmers who were affected by the flood; the Vermont Irene Flood Relief Fund to support small businesses affected by the flood; the Special and Urgent Needs – Irene Recovery Fund to support nonprofit and public sector organizations affected by the flood; and the Vermont Food Bank.

The fund had previously granted $50,000 to the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) for their Mobile Home Project Fund, to provide immediate support for mobile home park relief efforts.

Also Included in this initial round of grants, WaterWheel has made small grants to approximately 30 local relief efforts at the town level across the state to help address the needs of families and individuals as well as town services and infrastructure in the areas hardest hit by the storm.

Additional grants to support long-term relief efforts will be announced as a clearer picture of the next phase of recovery needs around the state develops.
