Show Notes

This stealth gig, which was really a rehearsal to run the new songs for the upcoming European summer tour, was affectionately known as “Fourth Ball at Bradstock” due to its date one year from the Third Ball show in Woodstock. Admission was free – by invitation only for friends and family. The band played on the back porch and some of the audience camped around the outskirts of the property. The show included the 1st Limb by Limb, Dogs Stole Things, Ghost, Water in the Sky, Vultures, Dirt, Twist, Piper, Wading in the Velvet Sea, Olivia’s Pool, I Don’t Care, Samson Variation, Bye Bye Foot and Waking Up (also known at the time as Marc Of The Unicorn) played and the 1st Ain’t Love Funny (J.J. Cale cover), Stand! (Sly and the Family Stone cover) and Izabella (Jimi Hendrix Experience cover) played by Phish. Dirt and Saw It Again had been played by Trey and Mike previously on 5/21/97 in their one-off band New York! at Club Toast in Burlington. A “Pete Becker Comment” followed the set I Wading In The Velvet Sea. After Bye Bye Foot, Trey made an announcement about the “13 new tunes.” The lyrics to Bye Bye Foot were published in the Summer 1997 Doniac Schvice Fish’s Forum entitled Making Music:
“Where I end and you begin.
I Want to know where the line is
so that I can cross it
back and forth
until it disappears from the erosion of our
footsteps”
