Show Notes

This was Phish’s 1st show in Ireland, their first performance at the S.F.X. Centre and the first show of a 2-night stand. S.F.X. Centre was a nightclub/theater named for Saint Francis Xavier – opened in 1984 with a capacity of 1400. Tickets cost IR£13.50. The band and crew had tech. rehearsal at the venue and the band ran through most of the new songs played this show as well as Poor Heart, Twist, Dirt and 96 Tears (Question Mark & the Mysterians cover). This show featured the 1st public Phish performances of Dogs Stole Things, Limb By Limb, Wading In The Velvet Sea, Water In The Sky, Vultures, Ghost, Olivia’s Pool, Stand and Izabella. After Dogs Stole Things, Trey announced that the band had written 15-16 new songs in the past eight weeks and they would debut many of them during this show. Before the set II Stash opener, Trey teased La Bamba and Tequila. Chalk Dust Torture was unfinished. Character Zero contained a Jean Pierre tease. The March 1997 Doniac Schvice Phish News broke down the band’s summer plans: “The Great Went will culminate a lengthy international summer tour that kicks off the weekend of June 13-15 (exact start date tba) in Europe. The Euro tour will consist of festival slots on most weekend days and two set, headline gigs on weekdays. Only a portion of the Euro dates are confirmed as we go to press; we expect to have the balance of the tour confirmed by some time in April – please stay in touch with the hotline and web site for the most current information, as well as for any venue or time changes.”
