Show Notes

This was Phish’s 1st show in Iowa. It took place in a venue listed in the Apr/May 93 Phish Update as “Student Union Ballroom”. The exact room within the IMU may have been either the Second Floor Ballroom or the Main Lounge, which matched the advanced capacity of 1,300. This show’s soundcheck featured the 1st known performance of Cowgirl In The Sand (Neil Young cover). Trey played The Horse on acoustic guitar. Satin Doll was performed for the 1st time in nearly three years (since 5/28/90). Before it was played, Trey explained that his Grandma Jean attended University of Iowa and used to dance to big band music like Dizzy Gillespie’s in the same ballroom they were playing in. Fee was sung without the megaphone. You Enjoy Myself featured a Gumbo jam and the band’s 1st public performance of Honky Tonk Women plus a vocal jam that showcased New York New York and Swing Low Sweet Chariot. Fish’s vacuum solo in Terrapin included an In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida jam. Trey requested absolute silence before singing Amazing Grace without microphones. Highway to Hell was played for the first time in nearly a year and a half (since 11/15/91). Rocky Top was performed as a second encore after the band left the stage and returned following Highway To Hell. After the show, the band and crew traveled 292 miles overnight to Kansas City.
