Phish - 1997

Piazza Risorgimento
Cernobbio, Como, Italy

Set List

Show Notes

This was Phish’s only performance at Piazza Risorgimento in Cernobbio, Como. It took place during the 1997 Laghi Lombardi in festival Folk-Rock-Blues Music Festival in the Lombardia (Lake District) of Italy, which also included (at least) the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Joan Baez, Jimmy Vaughan, G.Love and Special Sauce, and Ronnie Earl. Phish’s set was a free, 1-set show outdoors on the shore of Lago (Lake) Como – believed to be the last full, free, public Phish show. Due to train schedules, fans arrived early to the Piazza, which led some to believe that the soundcheck – played in front of an audience – was the show. The crowd grew as night fell, with more and more locals making their way to the square. Also on Phish’s stage (possibly before and/or after Phish) were Timoria, 99 Posse and Joan Baez. Twist contained a Groove Is In the Heart jam. Good Times Bad Times included a Walk This Way tease. Trey’s “You’re on the back of the worm” banter (left over from 7/1/97-7/2/97) dotted Sample In A Jar and Harry Hood and Harry Hood also contained Odd Couple theme teases from Mike. The beginning of the Harry Hood jam was the first known instance of Trey asking Chris to turn off the lights so everybody could see the surrounding mountains. This was the first Love You was played in about a year and a half (since 12/8/95). After this show the band and crew traveled 70 miles overnight to Brescia, Italy.
