Show Notes

This was Phish’s fourth performance at Hampton Coliseum and was the second show of a 2-night stand at The Mothership. Tickets (all general admission) cost $22.50 and the show was sold out. The opener was a big, funky Mike’s Groove – with some Black-Eyed Katy teases during Mike’s Song. Before Halley’s Comet – another monster Hampton ’97 set opener – some of the crowd chanted the opening verse of Destiny Unbound and Trey responded “That just sounds like a horrible cannibalistic chant for people who want blood. I have no idea what you’re saying…Is it the human sacrifice part of the show? Allright, bring ’em up here!” Halley’s ran nearly 26 minutes and ended in a proto-Wingsuit feel including ending with Mike’s Drill. Tweezer had more Black-Eyed Katy teases and eventually dropped into the third Black-Eyed Katy of the tour. Trey substituted “Miko Esquandolas” for the “Marco Esquandolas” lyric in Run Like An Antelope. After this show the band and crew traveled 266 miles overnight to Winston-Salem, NC. This show was released in 2011 as part of the Hampton/Winston-Salem ’97 box set. Video of this show was webcast in 2020 at livephish and youtube as a free stream Dinner and A Movie EP28 Thanksgiving Special.
