This was Phish’s only show at Pumpehuset – a 650 capacity nightclub opened in 1987 on the top floor of an old steam pump house built in 1858. Tickets cost DKK 130.00. The Dog Log soundcheck was the funk version. Trey teased Creep (Radiohead) during Sample In A Jar. Run Like An Antelope was unfinished. Trey teased Super Bad during 2001. Before You Enjoy Myself, Trey mentioned onstage that they were last in Denmark for Roskilde and said the party afterward was the best party he’d ever attended so the band expected some sort of party after the show. The YEM vocal jam was “Skelton”. After this show the band and crew stayed overnight in Hamburg before flying back to the United States the following day. On 3/3/97 John Paluska received a Manager Of The Year award at the Pollstar Concert Industry Awards. After arriving back in the U.S. Phish played Character Zero on The Late Show with David Letterman. Then the band went into the studio at Bearsville to start work with John Siket on music for the next album. The Winter 1997 Doniac Scvhice Phish News laid out the plans and put to rest rumors of a spring tour: “From early March until mid-June, things will be quiet on the touring front to make way for rehearsals, writing and possibly some recording. We opted to forego the possible spring U.S. dates for a variety of reasons, most notably poor availability of the desired venues. Summer will be busy on both sides of the Atlantic. First, we plan to return to Europe from mid-June to mid-July for performances at summer festivals, along with some headline dates at clubs and small theatres. Then it’s back to the U.S. for a national summer tour beginning late July and continuing throughout August.” The March 1997 Doniac Schvice included a piece called Fish’s Forum European Notebook which shed Fish’s insight on the Winter Europe shows: I kahny believe Ieem copninin the veenershnitzelin zaas gootinhagen Bet kah aht metz greegin.
