This was Phish’s second and last (to-date) performance at Roskilde Festival – an annual multi-act festival and the largest North European culture and music festival, founded in 1971 with an estimated 1997 attendance of 115,000. Four-day tickets (there were no single-day tix) cost DKK 760 and the festival was sold out. This was a 1-set show from about 4:00pm to 5:15pm. Also on the bill for the 27th annual Roskilde Festival were more than 100 other acts including Daft Punk, Beck, Smashing Pumpkins, Pavement, Primus, David Byrne, Israel Vibration, Buckshot LeFonque, Groove Collective, Charlie Hunter Quartet, Ani DiFranco, John Fogerty, Mötley Crue and Radiohead. Isaac Hayes played on same stage as Phish following their set and Beck played that same day on a different stage. The first three songs of Phish’s set were broadcast on the festival radio station. After this show the band and crew traveled 500 miles (including a ferry crossing) overnight to Amsterdam for a day off.
