Show Notes

This was Phish’s fourth performance at Deer Creek and the first show of a sold-out 2-night stand. Tickets cost $25.00. Soundcheck included a demented Dog Log mashed up with Happy Whip And Dung Song, a slow Funky Bitch sung by Trey, and the first known She Caught The Katy played in nearly a decade (since 7/30/88). Split Open and Melt featured an exploratory jam with teases of Third Stone from the Sun and Larks’ Tongues in Aspic, Part Two (King Crimson cover). Set II kicked off with an experimental Cities that covered a lot of ground, including a The End (The Doors cover) tease before the segue to Good Times Bad Times. Good Times led to the fourth ever (and last to-date) Rotation Jam and Rock A William. The Rotation Jam instrument switch began with Page moving to his theremin while Trey took his place at the keys and Mike moved to guitar, teasing the Star Trek Theme. Eventually Page picked up the bass and they jammed a while before Mike doubled on keys with Trey, who then joined Fish on the drums. Mike took a piano solo and Fish moved to guitar, which set up Rock A William – played for the fifth time (of 6 to-date). David Bowie featured a long, spacey intro. This was an especially Out show about which a bewildered reviewer wrote a negative review that Trey read aloud during Bittersweet Motel.
