Show Notes

This was opening night of fall tour and Phish’s first performance at Thomas & Mack Center – a basketball arena on the UNLV campus known as “the Shark Tank” and opened soon after Phish’s first gig in 1983 (by a Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin show) with a capacity for this show of 18,000. Tickets cost $23.75 and tour posters proclaimed “Phish Destroys America.” The band and crew had tech rehearsal the previous two days at the venue, where they worked on Farmhouse, Roses Are Free, Limb By Limb, Black-Eyed Katy, No Quarter and Dirt. Soundcheck included the 1st known It’s All Over Now (Bobby/Shirley Womack cover popularized by The Rolling Stones) played by Phish, which was sung by Trey and unfinished. The Poor Heart soundcheck was the slow version. This was the 1st Black-Eyed Katy played in public. The Mike’s Song jam contained teases of Born on the Bayou (Creedence Clearwater Revival cover). Weekapaug Groove included teases of Dave’s Energy Guide and Can’t You Hear Me Knocking and was slowly sped up and ended in double-time. After this show the band and crew traveled 423 miles overnight to Salt Lake City.
