On November 2nd, 1996, Phish performed at Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, FL; the only outdoor shed show of the Fall Tour. On October 19th, JEMP Records will release Coral Sky, a brand new 2-DVD set capturing the complete performance. The show combined the residual energy of Halloween with a tropical feel that could only have happened in South Florida in November. Amidst swaying palms and soft breezes, the band played a deeply experimental show. They were joined by percussionist Karl Perazzo (Santana), whose contribution helped extend and build upon the magic of Halloween, adding polyrhythms that explored new space within Phish's music. Allman Brothers Band drummer, Butch Trucks, furthur upped the percussion coefficient by sitting in on drums for the Encore.
Often cited as a fan favorite, the epicenter of the show was a pairing of Crosseyed And Painless > Run Like An Antelope. Coral Sky showcases the thrilling genesis of a more rhythmic, textured style of group improvisation and conveys the band and crowd's shared excitement about the breakthrough. This 2-DVD set features more than 2 1/2 hours of footage with 5.1 Dolby Surround or optional PCM Stereo sound audio, mixed from multi-track masters.
Coral Sky is available for pre-order now at Phish Dry Goods, along with a soundtrack companion CD (which will not be in stores, but available exclusively at Dry Goods)

I paid my hard earned cash for a double DVD set. the discs should be mastered glitch free - it's about quality control!
here is my response from Phish Drygoods:
"We are checking on the DVD, they all may be defective. So if you could please send the item back.
If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us."
I care about the music and quality! I've been recording live music since 1986 and enjoy being at shows and reliving the experience...
and glitch in Stash - I mean come on... that is not cool..
chill out dude
enjoy the music
as we say
peace thru music!
Not the DVD....just the people complaining about the quality. You guys clearly don't care about the music. "Dude..it's not on Blu-Ray!!!!!" You're probably the same morons complaining that Fishman's bass drum sound sucks on LivePhish downloads. Spoiled, entitled piglets.....please kill yourselves soon.
Hey
I received my 2 DVD set of Coral Sky 11.2.96
in the mail yesterday
while watching disc one last night
my wife and I noticed that at some points the camera is warble or "bouncing"
but the biggest issue is that during Stash there is a huge skip - glitch where the screen goes grey and some vocals are lost...
yet to watch disc 2
anyone else have these issues or is it mine ? Can I get a fixed version of Disc 1 ?

With BluRay we could have PCM 5.1 or even 7.1. I'm gonna watch the release on my HDTV regardless, so why not have uncompressed multi-channel audio?
Wow. Wow. Wow... it's like you didn't even read my comment AND you don't know what you're talking about.
Your argument would be accurate if the show were shot on film, which it wasn't. Yes obviously film has a resolution usually of 4k, far higher than HD video standards. If the show were shot on film, it could be released in a hi-def format such as BluRay.
But AS I SAID IN MY POST WHICH YOU CLEARLY DID NOT READ AT ALL/FULLY, this show was shot with STANDARD DEFINITION video cameras at 480i most likely, the NTSC standard.
Remember this from my post?
"BluRay video is only sourced from hi-def sources such as 720p/1080p video or FILM. Since this show, (and every other show in the 90's/early 00's) was shot on 480i cameras, that's the best we'll ever see it."
DVD is the current physical medium to distribute NTSC 480i/p video, this is why we are seeing Phish video releases from the 90's on DVD (Clifford Ball, Vegas 96, Walnut Creek, etc).
The only Phish release that could get a BluRay treatment would be Bittersweet Motel as that whole project was shot ON FILM. Hopefully that happens soon!
For better or worse, your statement is pretty much entirely inaccurate. HDTV has actually been around in some form or another since the 1970s, but the real point is that HDTV is a display system, not a recording system. Film can be of much higher quality than HD, and feature films, for example, typically need to be downgraded when they are transferred to HD or Blu-Ray regardless of whether they were filmed in 1950 or 2010. So it is entirely conceivable that Phish filmed this show in analog on film and that it could be presented in HD on Blu-Ray. Why Phish chose not to do that is probably a decision related to how many Blu-Ray units they felt they could sell, not what is technologically feasible.
Are you BluRay requesters really serious? This show was in 1996, shot on at the time, standard definition video. There was no hi-definition video back then.

Please educate yourselves instead of complaining.

Thank you Phish Archives for releasing this show! Please continue to release as many pro-shot/single cam shows as fast as you can.
Next up Great Went DVD Box set?
Without VHS as an option, this show is Crosseyed And POINTLESS.
Without blue ray as an option, this show is Crosseyed And POINTLESS.
Come on Phish, you should know better than to keep releasing live shows that aren't up to today's standards in Hi-Def. Get with blue ray already and stop fooling around. There's a huge core of your audience begging for truly epic shows, matched with HD technology.
For now I'll just have to live with seeing the fab 4 live.
Butch Trucks was at the West Palm show year before and this one. Was at both.
I am excited about this release but very dissapointed there isnt a blu-ray release. DVD's are so old school.
"Allman Brothers Band drummer, Butch Trucks, furthur upped the percussion coefficient by sitting in on drums for the Encore"
I'm pretty sure Butch Trucks sat in w/ the band the year before (1995) at West Palm Beach Auditorium.
This sounds nice, I'll order my copy like a good Phan. Looking forward to the Fall Tour.
