Show Notes

This show was an African National Congress Benefit featuring Phish and South African dub poet Zenzile. Admission was $4 and Trey designed and hand lettered the flyer. For set II, Phish accompanied Zenzile Khoisan for his African rhythmic chants and rap. This was the 1st known public performance of You Enjoy Myself – a nascent arrangement without the “Boy Man God Shit” lyrics, although It’s worth noting that this setlist has also been attributed (possibly incorrectly) to 2/1/85 Doolin’s. This show also marked the 1st known performances of Zenzile’s pieces – all performed with Phish – Exiled Shadows (aka Tonight), The Pendulum, Babylon Is Burning, and Soweto Revisited (aka Dec 1661). Russ Flanagan sat in on fiddle for parts of this show.
