Show Notes
This was the first show of a 3-night stand at Nectar’s based on the flyer (a band photo with Trey upside down hanging over the band). There is some confusion surrounding these shows – some say there were four shows 5/21-5/24/88 or 5/22-5/25/88 while some say three shows 5/22-5/24/88. This confusion stems from conflicting labeling and reports from those in attendance. There is a circulating tape labeled 5/21/88 Nectar’s that is not in the archives and a tape that is in the archives labeled (perhaps mis-labeled) 5/25/88. The information on the flyer has been adopted that there were three shows 5/22, 5/23 and 5/24 and the complete 5/21/88 setlist has been adopted as 5/22/88, for which there was currently no setlist on file. Sneakin’ Sally Thru The Alley contained teases of Dave’s Energy Guide. Trey dedicated Alumni Blues to Del Martin, “one of my best friends”, for graduating college. Trey announced during Letter to Jimmy Page that “per Del’s request”, the band would play the song as a band and then Fish would play it alone because Fish doesn’t know it. Fish subsequently played a solo during Letter To Jimmy Page. You Enjoy Myself was also dedicated to Del. This was the 1st known performance of St. Thomas (Sonny Rollins cover). Trey dedicated La Grange to Mike. Note that Trey referred to Tela as a debut at this show although it was played on 3/12/88.
