Show Notes
This show was a private party for family and friends at Trey’s dad’s house – a precursor to the Phamily Phrolics of later years. The gig was not listed in the March 1989 Phish Update and consisted of the band set up in the living room playing jazz. Fish played mostly with brushes. This show yielded many additions to the band’s jazz repertoire (including some standards still unidentified) including the 1st known “public” performances of: Autumn Leaves (Cannonball Adderly cover), My Favorite Things (John Coltrane cover), On Green Dolphin Street (Miles Davis cover), So What (Miles Davis cover), All Of Me (Gerald Marks/Seymour Simons cover popularized by Louis Armstrong) and Basin Street Blues (Spencer Williams cover popularized by Willie Nelson). Page’s dad, Jack McConnell sat in with the band on vocals for All Of Me and Basin Street Blues. Fish played a trombone solo during I Didn’t Know. Page’s parents, the band members’ siblings, Andrew Fischbeck and others were in attendance. Between sets, Trey explained his thesis “The Man Who Stepped into Yesterday”, commonly known as ”Gamehendge” (without any musical accompaniment) to the McConnells and others while sitting around talking.
