Show Notes

This was Phish’s first show at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center – a basketball arena, commonly called the O’Dome, a with a scaled capacity of 5,000 for this event. Tickets cost $20.00. The Poor Heart soundcheck was the slow version with alternate “pickup/stickup” lyrics and the Funky Bitch soundcheck was also a slow version, sung by Trey with some alt. lyrics about fancy duds. Before Hello My Baby, Trey explained “the giant chess board that you might see hanging back there…We are embroiled in a vicious chess battle. It’s the band vs. the audience. As you can see it’s almost over so if anybody has a good idea about how the audience can get themselves out of this horrible mess they’re in here, go to the Greenpeace table and put your vote in for the chess move. Somebody from the audience will come up and make the move when we start the second set.” Trey introduced Fish before his vacuum solo in I Didn’t Know as “Brown, Moses Brown.” Reba ended without whistling. Fish dropped some lyrics during Cracklin’ Rosie and made a joke out of it. Possum included The Simpsons secret language and teases of Dixie, the Woody Woodpecker Theme and Johnny B. Goode. After this show the band and crew traveled overnight to Orlando, Florida for a day off.
