Show Notes
This was Phish’s only show at Niagara Falls Convention Center – a basketball arena opened in 1973 just a few blocks from the falls with a capacity of 11,370. Tickets cost $20.00. Poor Heart from the soundcheck was the slow, half-time version. Funky Bitch from the soundcheck was a double-time gospel-ish version sung by Trey. The repeated Including Your Own “Hey” exercises and Run Like An Antelope Jams from the soundcheck were listening exercises focused on adding “more space” into the music and were replete with “space is the place” comments. After Guyute, Fish nearly started Possum before Trey cued Bouncing Around The Room. Split Open And Melt included an In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida tease. This Reba was particularly fast, contained a Pop Goes The Weasel tease and had an unusual ending without whistling. This show featured the 2nd (and one of just 3-ever) Mike’s > Weekapaug combinations without any songs in between (see also 12/1/95 and 7/17/98). Weekapaug Groove was unfinished – it ended with a Digital Delay Loop Jam and some Maze teases from Fish before the jam faded and the band moved upstage to sing Amazing Grace. After this show the band and crew traveled 212 miles overnight to Cleveland, Ohio.
