Show Notes
This was Phish’s second and last show at this venue and their 8th New Orleans gig. Tickets cost $20.00 and the show was sold out. Medeski, Martin and Wood opened. The Fall 1995 Doniac Schvice made the announcement “We are pleased to welcome Medeski Martin & Wood (‘music that makes me want to drive too fast’ – Trey) as special guests in New Orleans.” Amazing Grace was performed twice in a row – by the band A cappella without microphones and then by Nathan and the audience. After the band completed Amazing Grace, Trey said “Ok, now that you’ve heard that version, we’re going to now give you the real version of that song. This is our friend Nathan who’s going to sing it for you and then we’re going to take a 15 minute break, so thanks.” Nathan then sang the song with a microphone after recruiting “the guy with the Etch-a-Sketch” in the audience to say Grace. The second Amazing Grace included an audience sing-a-long to close set I. The MMW Jam out of Keyboard Army stretched to over 35 minutes and incorporated the full band on their respective instruments, Medeski, Martin and Wood plus Fish on vacuum and trombone and Trey on percussion. The encore, My Long Journey Home and I’m Blue I’m Lonesome were performed acoustic without microphones with Trey on acoustic guitar, Mike on banjo, Page on upright bass and Fish on mandolin. After this show the band and crew traveled 845 miles to Kansas City, Missouri for a day off.
