Show Notes

This was Phish’s only show at DeVos Hall aka DeVos Performance Hall – Grand Center, a theater opened in 1980 to house the Grand Rapids Symphony, Ballet and Opera with a capacity of about 2,300. Tickets cost $19.50 and the show was sold out. Lawn Boy featured a short, jug bass style solo by Mike and was followed by a unique Cavern interspersed with parts of Lawn Boy. David Bowie included an especially out section with the band jumping up and down accompanied by tribal audience chanting, followed by a long section of sound effects from a microphone held up to an electric fan and culminating in group whistling before wrapping up. My Old Home Place and Nellie Cane were performed acoustic with Trey on acoustic guitar, Mike on banjo, Page on upright bass and Fish on mandolin. Sweet Adeline was performed A cappella without microphones. After this show, the band and crew traveled to Ann Arbor where the band began a week long bluegrass study session with Rev. Jeff Mosier.
