Show Notes

This was Phish’s 1st and only show in this venue – a modern theater with capacity of 2,504 and acoustics fine enough to house the Eugene Symphony and the Eugene Ballet Company. The promoter was Bill Graham Presents. The soundcheck from this show yielded the 1st known Simple played (in basically its current form). Simple wasn’t performed live in front of an audience until 5/27/94. The soundcheck Simple led to joking 1st “performances” of limited parts of The Fool On The Hill (The Beatles cover), Arthur’s Theme (Christopher Cross cover) and Sunset HIll (Don Henley cover). Trey teased Today during Mike’s Song. Weekapaug Groove, Big Ball Jam and Harry Hood all included teases of the I Love Lucy theme. The first 3 songs of the encore were performed acoustic and without microphones or amplification: Ginseng Sullivan and Nellie Cane featured Trey on acoustic guitar, Mike on upright bass, Page on Melodica and Fish on Madonna washboard. Sweet Adeline was performed A capella without microphones. Also on this day, Elektra released The Down With Disease (1st) single from the album Hoist as an extended version for sale on cassette with NO2 (from the White Tape) as the B-side.
