Show Notes
This was Phish’s second and last show at the State Theatre as they moved down Hennepin Avenue to the slightly larger Orpheum Theatre when they returned in November. The band played a fairly long soundcheck while they worked on some songs they hadn’t played in a while including multiple runs through Gumbo. Trey sang the verses of Fee through his megaphone. This was the first Gumbo played in more than a year (since 4/21/93) and the first with the added piano outro. Stash contained a brief Dave’s Energy Guide jam. David Bowie was teased briefly before Down With Disease, which was unfinished (the first to open up the jam), and included the “write it down” incantation as well as a Swingtown (Steve Miller cover) tease. Big Black Furry Creature From Mars was also unfinished and segued into Purple Rain. Ginseng Sullivan was performed acoustic without amplification with Trey on acoustic guitar, Mike on upright bass, Page on Melodica and Fish on Madonna washboard. Amazing Grace was performed A capella without microphones and was dedicated by Trey to David “ZZYZX” Steinberg (aka The Timer). After Ginseng, Trey said “This next song is very long. Dave this one is for you it’s a long song.” Heartbreaker was teased during Good Times Bad Times.
