This was Phish’s third headlining show of the Europe tour and their only show at La Marna – a Varese club near the beach on Lake Maggiore with a capacity of 600. This show was listed in the Late Spring 1996 Doniac Schvice as tentative – Venue TBA Gallarte, Italy (30 miles from Milan) with a note to “call hotline for updated info.” The lights malfunctioned during the beginning of My Friend and came back on near the end of the song. After Guyute, Trey spoke to the audience in Italian. Possum included The Simpsons and All Fall Down secret language. Trey introduced Fish as “Henrietta” before his I Didn’t Know vacuum solo, which got the crowd clapping along and chanting “Hey Hey Hey”. The crowd also got particularly into Fish’s Purple Rain vacuum solo as well. After this show the band and crew traveled 296 miles overnight to Vienne, France for a day off. During the off day, the band and some of the crew went to see Neil Young’s Broken Arrow Tour at Theatre Antique.
