Show Notes
This was Phish’s only performance at the Mid-South Coliseum – a multi-purpose arena opened in 1963 with a capacity of 10,085. Tickets cost $22.50. The soundcheck included bits of Play That Funky Music (Wild Cherry cover) and I Feel Free (Cream cover) – both played by Phish for the 1st known time. Reba ended without whistling. Gary “El Buho” Gazaway sat in on trumpet for Tweezer,Hello My Baby, Tweezer Reprise, Llama, and Johnny B. Goode – and teased Zimbabwe during Tweezer. Trey introduced El Buho on the trumpet after Tweezer and announced that “in the spirit of trying something different”, he would be joining them to take the the solo during the otherwise A cappella Hello My Baby that followed. After this show the band and crew traveled 525 miles overnight to Kansas City, Missouri. The Memphish Simple was released in November 2007 on the ‘Road to Vegas’ bonus disc that was included with the ‘Vegas 96’ box set.
