Show Notes
This was Phish’s only show in San Jose. The venue was the SJSU Event Center Arena, a basketball arena with a capacity of 6,500. Tickets cost $19.50. Dave Matthews Band opened. Frankenstein during the soundcheck included the Giant Country Horns as did all of set II through Cavern (introduced here as the Cosmic Country Horns). The Cosmic Country Horns included Dave “The Truth” Grippo on alto saxophone and percussion, Carl “Gears” Gerhard on trumpet, Michael Ray on trumpet, James Harvey on trombone and Peter Apfelbaum on baritone and tenor saxophones and flute. As usual, Dave Grippo played congas on The Landlady. Unlike 4/4/94, 4/15/94 (where the band sang a verse) and 5/4/94 where the jam arose out of an up-tempo Wolfman’s Brother, this Alumni Blues Jam was stand-alone and was followed by Trey’s introduction of the horns. Touch Me was played for the 1st time in more than three years (since 7/27/91) since it had last been played with the Giant Country Horns. After this show the band and crew traveled 207 miles overnight to Chico, California.
