Show Notes

This was Phish’s 1st and only show at Charleston Municipal Auditorium – an historic public auditorium/theater built in 1939 with a capacity of 3,483. This was also the only full-length Phish show in the state of West Virginia (they played the state once before in the form of a 4-song promotional set for NPR Mountain Stage on 3/22/92). Ttickets cost $17.50. This was the 4th ”Gamehendge” show (3/12/88, 10/13/91, 3/22/93) but this gig is known as as “GameHoist.” Set I consisted of the Gamehendge saga, including narration between songs starting with Llama through the end of the set. Set II was a live performance of the entire Hoist album except for Riker’s Mailbox. The Divided Sky contained teases of Wipe Out. Old Home Place, the 1st played in front of an audience, was performed without amplification with Trey on acoustic guitar, Mike on upright bass, Page on Melodica and Fish on Madonna washboard. Amazing Grace was performed A cappella without microphones. Tube, played at the end of a 4-song encore, was the 1st played in more than a year (since 4/12/93). After this show the band and crew traveled 318 miles to Raleigh for two days off.
