This was Phish’s only show at Nice Jazz Festival – an annual multi-act event held on the French Riviera since 1948 (Louis Armstrong was the very first headliner). Theatre de Verdure was an outdoor Greek style amphitheater with a capacity of 3,200. Tickets cost 160 FrF. This was a 1-set show opening for Santana – other acts on the bill included Angelique Kidjo. Trey introduced Hello My Baby before the song, saying how happy the band was to be playing there “being that this is a jazz festival we’re going to play some very early recent jazz kind of thing for you A cappella turn-of-the-century from the Gay Nineties. We are happy to be back in the Gay Nineties.” After this show the band and crew traveled 185 miles overnight to Arles, France.
