Show Notes
This was Phish’s 1st show at Walnut Creek – an amphitheater with a capacity of 20,000. It was once of the largest venues the band had played to-date. Tickets cost $17.50. Funky Bitch from the soundcheck was a slow version which led into a Jam that included elements of ARU (Mike “Take it to the bridge…the Burbridge!”) and something that sounded like 46 Days (years before its time) before landing with Pendulum, which was played for the 1st known time in more than four years (since 4/21/90). The soundcheck also included Colour My World (Chicago cover) and parts of Self, specifically the line “soul in the sewer”. Trey teased Julius during the intro to The Horse. Catapult was sung over David Bowie’s hi-hat intro. During his spot in I Didn’t Know, Fish skipped the usual trombone or vacuum solo and instead played a kick drum pedal on his knees picked up by Trey’s megaphone, which was enjoying an increased profile since 6/25/94, and Mike’s microphone. Ya Mar contained a Dixie tease and The Simpsons secret language. Reba from this show was released in 2008 on the Left Nuts bonus disc that was included with the Walnut Creek DVD. David Bowie > Catapult > David Bowie from this show were included on LiveBait04 which was released as a free download at livephish.com in May 2011.
