Show Notes
This was an 18-and-over gig – the “Get A Little Bit Looser In Tuscaloosa” show. The venue was listed in the Fall Tour 91 and Nov/Dec 91 Phish Updates as College Station Theatre (where they played 3/8/91), but the show took place at the Ivory Tusk. The Dude of Life joined the band on vocals during soundcheck to rehearse his songs, Family Picture, TV Show and Crimes Of The Mind. Trey teased Stash during a rare Camel Walk soundcheck. Trey dedicated Paul And Silas (he called it “Hall in Solace”) to Jason on his 22nd birthday, saying the band traveled all the way to Tuscaloosa just to play the song for him. Trey teased Dixie during the peak of the Divided Sky. During this incendiary rendition of Brother, Trey reeled off an impressive list of potential relations (including uncle, cousin, stepbrother, stepmother and more). Trey sang harmony with some guitar notes during the jam in Mike’s Song. This experimental Weekapaug Groove included The Simpsons secret language and featured a jam punctuated by the lyric “a slice of pizza, a bucket of lard”, first heard during You Enjoy Myself a week earlier on Halloween. The band took the slice of pizza/bucket of lard thing so far that they ended the final chorus of Weekapaug Groove with the alternate lyrics “I”m sharing in a bucket of lard!” After Jesus Just Left Chicago, the band broke into a jazzy Dude of Life Intro Jam, which transitioned into Self. The Dude Of Life sang Self, TV Show, Family Picture and Crimes Of The Mind. This was the 1st known performance of TV Show and Family Picture. Trey (and eventually Page) added some funky scatting to Suzy Greenberg.
