Show Notes

This was Phish’s fourth show at The Capitol. It was a sold out, all ages show. Reportedly fans were trying to rush the doors to get in without tickets and, as was always the case at The Capitol, the balcony shook mightily from dancers throughout the show. Shockra opened and Fish sat in with them on vacuum during the last song of their set. Fish, who Trey introduced as Saleem Javed, subsequently played the mouthpiece of his trombone during I Didn’t Know. This rendition of Golgi Apparatus is one of the first known performances of the song with contrasted dynamic experimentation as the band jumped from extremely loud to extremely quiet phrases for maximum effect. In a classic fan vs. management move, “Big Phil” Muller videotaped this show from the pit (perhaps with permission from the band or road crew) despite being told by John Paluska to stop mid-show.
