This was Phish’s 1st show in Arizona. The show was listed as tentative in the Fall Tour 91 Phish Update, which said “call to confirm”. This show was Brad Sands’ 1st gig helping the crew in an unpaid capacity – something he did regularly between this show and his official hiring in early 1992. During soundcheck, the band spent a lot of energy re-learning Tube. After the Chalk Dust Torture opener, Trey, presumably commenting on the incredibly low or non-existent stage said “…our 1st song ever in Arizona…I don’t know whether to look down or up.” The Introduction before set II included a giveaway of tickets to see The Pixies. There were also multiple AC/DC Bag teases before Brother. Possum contained The Simpsons, Popeye and Random Note secret language, but the band (not the audience) sang the random note since the language had not yet been explained publicly and was still essentially an inside joke for the band and crew.
