Show Notes

This was the first show of a 2-night weekend run at the Michigan Theater. The shows were presented by Lee Berry at Prism Productions and In-Flight Sports and billed as “Phish – back by popular demand”. This was the “Pregnant Pause” show. The soundcheck featured the 1st known performances of a series of covers by The Who including: I Can’t Explain, I Can See For Miles and a taste of Substitute. Trey played acoustic guitar for the beginning of My Friend My Friend, which included teases of Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. Run Like An Antelope contained Random Note and The Simpsons secret language. The You Enjoy Myself jam showcased teases of I Wish. Rather than switch back after the Hold Your Head Up outro, Trey played drums and Fish vacuum during Big Ball Jam. Sweet Adeline was performed without microphones. Big Black Furry Creature From Mars contained alternative “smell myself running” lyrics, but this Creature was defiined by Trey forgetting it was his turn to re-start the song. Trey and Mike remained frozen in (what must have been uncomfortable) suspended animation with Trey bent over and Mike on the floor, each waiting for the other to start. As the most pregnant pause in Phish history neared what seemed like the 10-minute mark and the audience grew increasingly rowdy, they figured it out and finished the song.
