Show Notes

This was the second show of a 2-night stand at The Palace. This date was listed in the Mar 93 Phish Update as “tentative – will be added if 17th sells out”, which it did. Trey sang the verses of Fee through his megaphone. During I Didn’t Know, Trey introduced Fish’s trombone solo saying, “playing his holographic soul out for you now ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome Showboat Gertrude, Moses Brown, Moses Heaps, Moses DeWitt, Henrietta…Tubbs!” The set-closing David Bowie included Fall Down and The Simpsons secret language in the intro as well as an introduction of actor George DiCenzo, and contained Dave’s Energy Guide jamming. As set II began, before My Friend My Friend, Mike and Fish teased Stayin’ Alive (Bee Gees cover). My Friend My Friend began with Trey on acoustic guitar and developed, starting with Mike, into a demented version of The Little Drummer Boy with My Friend My Friend vocals sung to the tune of The Little Drummer Boy. This was the 1st performance of The Little Drummer Boy in more than six years (since 12/6/86). Poor Heart featured more testimony than usual, with multiple vocalizations of “Cactus”. Split Open And Melt also included some extra testimony and scatting, a Stayin’ Alive jam plus a deft tease of The Little Drummer Boy toward the end. Tela began with yet another tease of The LIttle Drummer Boy. You Enjoy Myself included more teasing of Stayin’ Alive.
