Show Notes

This show took place in the Celebrity Theatre, a theatre-in-the-round with a capacity of about 1,100. The soundcheck included the 1st known performance of Slave (Rolling Stones cover). Making the most of the room’s excellent acoustics, Sweet Adeline and Amazing Grace were performed without microphones and Trey sang the verses of Fee through his megaphone without the aid of a microphone. After The Divided Sky, Trey introduced his grandmother, her husband and friends and said “my grandmother when she married her husband Harry Jones…they kind of had a little song that used to be their song and Harry, if you want to I’d love to have you come up here and sing it for us.” In a rare twist, this show’s first Hold Your Head Up turned into the intro for Harry Jones who joined the band to sing their 1st performance of You Gotta See Mama Every Night (Con Conrad/Billy Rose cover) to Trey’s Grandma Jean. Fish then started the beat for Possum but Trey stopped him and said “here’s one we haven’t done in a while that I want to do for Page”, and launched into the first McGrupp And The Watchful Hosemasters of 1993. Trey played acoustic guitar for the beginning of My Friend My Friend. Although they had soundchecked it a week earlier, Tweezer featured the 1st public performance of Sweet Emotion, with abbreviated lyrics sung by Trey. Esther book-ended Trey’s 10th explanation of the Secret Language Instructions. You Enjoy Myself ended in a percussive groove that segued directly into Hold Your Head Up without a vocal jam. After this show the band and crew drove 380 miles overnight to Hollywood.
