Show Notes

This was Phish’s 1st show at the Tower Theater, a Philadelphia-area, historic vaudeville/movie house built in 1927 with a capacity of 3,020. This was the 1st show of a 2-night stand at this venue well recognized for its acoustic qualities. The soundcheck featured the 1st known performance of Gonna Live That Life (Catfish Keith cover), an A capella Poor Heart and the first Brother of 1993. Trey sang the verses of Fee through his megaphone. It’s Ice featured Trey and Mike “skating” on their Slide Board Balance Trainers. Fluffhead ended with Trey on acoustic guitar, which he used to segue into the acoustic beginning of My Friend My Friend. Mike’s Song included teases of the as-yet-unnamed Simple and Fuckin’ Up (Neil Young cover). Carolina was performed without microphones. Before starting it, Trey whispered into his mic, “it has to be super quiet if this is going to work because this is a big-ass room.”
