Show Notes

This was the last show of a ten-day run up the coast of California. The venue was a historic basketball gymnasium originally built in 1931 with a capacity of 1,800. Tickets were $12 for students and $15 for the public. The post-Dog Log soundcheck Jam included teases of the Beverly Hills Cop Theme aka Axel F (Harold Faltermeyer cover) and Ghostbusters (Ray Parker Jr. cover). Trey sang Fee without his megaphone. The Run Like An Antelope Intro included the Andy Griffith Theme aka The Fishin’ Hole and teases of Axel F and Go Speed Racer Go (Nobuyoshi Koshibe cover). You Enjoy Myself was the platform for the 1st and only known performance of My Life As A Pez aka “The Pez Song”. Reportedly a backstage gift of Pez led to the decision to perform it. Trey introduced the song as having been written by his friend Dave “The Pez Man”. During the Hold Your Head Up outro, Fish was introduced as Tubbs. Possum featured teases of McGrupp And The Watchful Hosemasters. During the encore, Trey stopped to dedicate the chorus of Contact to then-Arcata resident, Shelly Culbertson, wishing her a safe journey on her cross-country trek to Boston to work for the band. Big Black Furry Creature From Mars included teases (mostly by Mike) of the Leave It To Beaver Theme. After the show the band and crew traveled 300 miles to enjoy a day off in Eugene, Oregon. This was the first show listed in the Apr/May 93 Phish Update which read in part: “This is the final newsletter for the spring tour, ending on May 8. After May 8, we will take some time off to practice and write in preparation for our summer tour, which should run sometime between mid-July and late August.”
