Show Notes
This was Phish’s second performance at The Mann Center for the Performing Arts (then billed as Mann Music Center) and their 1st headline show there. General admission tickets were $14.50. The soundcheck featured a ska version of Dog Log and a good deal of work on Y’rsushalayim Shel Zahav – the last rendition of which was dedicated by Mike to “the Fabulous Fondas”. The crew sometimes referred to this song as “LuLu” on setlists because of the sound of the vocals. Trey played the beginning of My Friend My Friend on acoustic guitar. This show featured the 1st public performances of 2001 (Strauss/Deodato cover also known as Also Sprach Zarthustra), Y’rsushalayim Shel Zahav (Naomi Shemer cover – the title in Hebrew translates to “Jerusalem of Gold”), and Purple Rain (Prince cover). The debut of Y’rsushalayim Shel Zahav was sandwiched inside the first section of You Enjoy Myself and was performed A cappella, as it always was by Phish. The sheet music the band learned it from read in part “Jerusalem of Gold, of copper and of light I shall accompany all the songs dedicated to you.” Free Bird was performed with microphones.
