Show Notes
This was Phish’s 1st Iowa appearance. The venue was originally listed in the Apr/May 93 Phish Update as the Student Union Ballroom (which is also in the IMU) but the show took place in the IMU Main Lounge. Tickets were general admission and cost $16.50 with a capacity of 1,300. The soundcheck included the 1st known performance of Cowgirl In The Sand (Neil Young cover). Trey played The Horse on acoustic guitar. Satin Doll was performed for the 1st time in nearly three years (since 5/28/90). Before Satin Doll, Trey explained that his Grandma Jean attended University of Iowa and danced to big band music like Dizzy Gillespie’s in the same ballroom they were playing in. Fee was sung without the megaphone. You Enjoy Myself featured a Gumbo jam and the band’s 1st public performance of Honky Tonk Women, plus a vocal jam with New York New York and Swing Low Sweet Chariot. Fish’s vacuum solo in Terrapin included an In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida jam. Trey requested silence before singing Amazing Grace without microphones. Highway to Hell was played for the first time in nearly a year and a half (since 11/15/91). Rocky Top was performed as a second encore. After the show, the band and crew traveled 292 miles overnight to Kansas City.
