Show Notes

This was an all ages, 1-set show opening for Santana. It was Phish’s 1st performance at Meadow Brook Music Festival, the summer home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra with a capacity of about 8,000 (and at the time, an open picnic policy). The Blues Jam that kicked off soundcheck morphed into the 1st known performance of Back At The Chicken Shack (Jimmy Smith cover). During I Didn’t Know, Trey introduced Fish before his vacuum solo, “Ladies and gentlemen, from right around the corner….would you please welcome Moses Brown, Moses Heaps and Moses DeWitt.” This rendition of Possum contained The Simpsons secret language.
