Show Notes

This was Phish’s seventh and final show at the Colonial. It was an all ages show presented by Dionysian Productions. Tickets were $13.50. Trey thanked “Steve E” for driving eighteen hours to the show and dedicated My Friend and other songs to him. Then Trey joked that just to thank him for traveling so far, they’re going to “get the bouncers over here to throw your ass out of here.” Before Maze, Mike made a “no smoking or else” announcement to Page and Page replied “I don’t think they’re talking to me.” During The Divided Sky, Trey yelled “Possum”, apparently in response to rowdy, shouted crowd requests during the song. Before Llama, Page reiterated the no smoking announcement over a background theme of Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple cover) played by Mike and Trey. NICU was performed at its original, slow reggae tempo and included The Simpsons secret language. This show featured the 1st performance of Baby Lemonade (Syd Barrett cover). Along with singing yet another of his hero’s songs, Fish debuted his new, visionary-but-short-lived, vacuum-powered bagpipes. Baby Lemonade also contained an On Broadway tease. Sanity was teased before All Things Reconsidered, whetting the appetite of the audience who were aptly rewarded during the encore. Throughout the show Mike reportedly displayed and integrated a full-size cardboard cutout of Kathleen Turner (from the movie “V.I. Warshawski”) in various creative ways. The breakout of Sanity during the encore was its first performance in nearly three years (since 5/28/89). Memories and Carolina were performed without microphones.
