Show Notes

This was Phish’s first show at First Avenue, Prince’s hometown club that was the location for multiple scenes for “Purple Rain”. First Avenue was an Art Deco former bus station originally built in 1937 with a capacity of about 1,300. It was an all ages show with Col. Bruce Hampton & The Aquarium Rescue Unit opening. During solos in Take The ‘A’ Train, Yield Not To Temptation was teased, along with Stash and the Popeye Theme. David Bowie led Trey to deliver the 1st Midwest Secret Language Instructions. He demonstrated The Simpsons, Turn Turn Turn (as if the stage was in the back), Fall Down and Random Note secret language. The latter part of David Bowie subsequently contained The Simpsons secret language. In set II, Possum included Random Note secreet language and Weekapaug Groove included a tease of Raspberry Beret (Prince cover). Page recalled the crew being bummed at this show due to lousy local catering.
